Ally McCoist isn’t happy about Celtic’s Var Decision

Celtic’s 3 – 2 win away to Motherwell last night has the Scottish pundits losing their minds. Kris Boyd mumbled about the same debatable decisions that went Celtic’s way over and over again, Alistair Johnston had better watch his back I think Boyd is walking around Glasgow looking for him (how many times can he bring up that tackle against Rangers in one interview?)

It’s Super Sally’s turn to chime in talking to Talksport he says “A horrendous decision that has once again embarrassed Scottish football, “I don’t think I’m letting any secrets out the bag when I say that unfortunately, that referee has had experiences with Celtic fans as well. Not good ones.

“He’s a human being and that might have been in his thinking as well, because he made a decision a few years ago which was against Celtic and the fans turned on him. I don’t think his life was very pleasant for a while.

“I’m just trying to think logically how he would make that decision.

“But equally, on VAR guys, are we trying to tell each other that that is a clear and obvious error? Come on.

“I spoke to six or seven guys on talkSPORT last night and five of them mentioned the word corruption or cheating, which is unbelievable.

“I spoke to one of our ex-players from talkSPORT literally five minutes ago and he just said to me ‘the integrity of the game has to come into question after that decision.’ There you are.”

Asked if a referee from outwith Scotland should be drafted in for Saturday’s title showdown, McCoist admitted: “I think it’s probably too late for that to tell you the truth.

“It’s an embarrassment we’re having this conversation frankly, that we’re thinking of bringing referees in from other countries. It’s such a shame.

“If anything good has come out of it, it was that awful a decision that the whole country has taken notice.

“TalkSPORT is talking about it, Gary Lineker is talking about it, Jeff (Stelling) is going off his head about it. Everybody.

“As bad as it is, it might bring it to people’s notice. It was an appalling decision.

“And by the way, exactly on that spot on Saturday night, Hearts should have been given a penalty. The referee was asked to go over to the monitor, he did and then never gave it.

“In the Old Firm game, there’s a clear red card for Alistair Johnston which VAR doesn’t get involved in. The first goal is offside and they don’t look at that.

“We must get rid of VAR, particularly in Scotland. Because instead of helping officials, it’s making us look like absolute clowns. We’re a laughing stock.”

McCoist is saddened that such a thrilling title race could now be decided on a penalty he insists never should have been awarded.

He added: “We’ve played the game, let’s be honest about it, we know. The ball comes off his head. It’s not hit his arm. It’s not deviated any way at all.

“Plus, having spoken to a few referees, he is not making himself bigger because his hand is in front of his face. We know it’s not a penalty.

“It’s sad that it’s come to this. It really, really is sad.

“It’s tarnished a little bit what has been a fantastic campaign, where Hearts and Celtic in particular have taken it to the wire. Rangers obviously dropping off.

“You just look at the reaction. The ex-players I;ve spoken to are horrified”

Can you imagine the uproar if Neil Lennon came up and said anything similar about some of the decisions that went against Celtic in the last few years or some of the baffling decisions that kept Danny Rohl in a job earlier in the season?. It’s absolute sour grapes they know this decision could help Celtic win the league this season and thats something they really don’t want.

Wee win on Sunday and the league is ours!
