Greg Taylor Hasn’t Closed the Door on a Celtic Return – And That Won’t Surprise Many Fans

Greg Taylor may have moved on from Celtic last season, but it doesn’t sound like he’s ruling out a return to Paradise somewhere down the line.

The former Hoops left-back recently admitted that he’d never say never when it comes to pulling on the green and white again. Football moves quickly, and as Taylor himself pointed out, you can never be certain what the future holds.

It’s no secret why the defender decided it was time for a fresh challenge. With Kieran Tierney making his emotional return to Celtic, the writing was on the wall. Taylor had spent years making the left-back position his own, but competing with a player of Tierney’s quality for regular starts was always going to be a difficult task.

Rather than sit on the bench, he chose to move on. Few Celtic supporters could argue with that decision.

Taylor’s spell at the club shouldn’t be underestimated. Signed from Kilmarnock in 2019, he grew into one of the most dependable players in the squad. He wasn’t always the flashiest performer, but he rarely let the team down and quietly became an important part of one of the most successful periods in the club’s recent history.

Over six years, he collected trophy after trophy, made more than 200 appearances and earned the respect of the Celtic support through consistency, hard work and professionalism.

That’s why his latest comments are likely to strike a chord with supporters. There are no rumours of a return anytime soon, and there doesn’t need to be. Sometimes it’s simply nice to hear a former player speak so fondly of the club after leaving.

Football has a funny way of bringing people back together. We’ve seen it before, and we’ve seen it with Kieran Tierney this summer. Whether Greg Taylor ever gets the chance to return to Celtic Park remains to be seen, but he’s made one thing clear—the door isn’t closed.

And if that day ever does come, it’s fair to say plenty of Celtic fans would welcome him back with open arms.
